Description
This Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Short Rifle chambered in 7.7x58mm Japanese, manufactured by the Kokura Arsenal during World War II. Because Japanese production ran in blocks of 99,999 rifles per "series" designated by a Japanese Katakana character inside a circle, your serial number (64660) places this rifle roughly two-thirds of the way through the 24th series production run. The rifle is in good condition with a few "battlefield" or "rack rifle" marks. The metal has moderate rust over most metal surfaces. The bore is clean and bright with sharp rifling. Historically, this rifle is a late-war rifle showing a number of cost-cutting measures with lower levels of polishing, and absence of bi-pod and antiaircraft wings. The bayonet is a Nagoya Arsenal, blued, hooked quillion, bird's head contoured pommel, and contoured grip, and includes a scabbard. The scabbard has some rust on it, but the blade is quite bright with a few pits.
