Description
Berger VLD Hunting 6mm Caliber 87 Grain Very Low Drag Boat Tail Rifle Bullets 100 Bullet. With the proven accuracy of the originals the new VLDs deliver the same explosive expansion with reduced wind drift and high point of impact accuracy that the originals were famous for. Each features a precisely executed boat tail profile and that critical sharp nose you have come to depend on. Plus the new VLDs utilize a slightly thinner jacket wall which allows the projectile to penetrate just two to three inches into game before it begins to expand. On smaller targets the velocities are held back a bit which is what gives the shooter that little extra stopping power at longer distances. Don't think that you are getting the same penetration with the same terminal performance. The new VLDs blow their combined energy out to a larger impact energy value than their predecessors. On paper that's a lot of stopping power. Plus the hydrostatic shock from the explosion will do the same devastation as high G II penetration. Plus the J4 hunting jacket won't retain enough energy to penetrate more than two inches into tough game like elk or moose which means you get the same explosive expansion but with much less loss of energy outside the animal. In tests the double-penetration from these Berger bullets penetrate a full two inches into the animal before they start to expand which is a big deal in a small game hunting scenario. The bullets do this with a combination of VLDs and the Berger SHORT design. The combination of these three design features makes the VLD projectiles very effective at short ranges. Because of the short pistol buffer length the VLDs have only a minimal drag at low velocities. These VLDs have a definite advantage over a tipped bullet from the same manufacturer. The difference between a VLD and a tipped VLD is that the tipped portion of the projectile acts like a thigh spike when it penetrates a certain distance. The deeper the cut the more energy is stored in the tip section of the projectile. In other words the projectile deforms violently as it expands which adds to the overall energy of the projectile. In other words the more energy is concentrated in the projectile tips.
