This method is particularly beneficial for military stocks. It employs the same technique detailed in traditional gunsmithing literature and remains equally effective today. To begin, create a thin paste using Whiting combined with methanol, TCE, acetone or toluene. Apply this mixture to the stock and allow it to dry and darken as it absorbs the oil. Once dry, brush off the paste. Gently warming the stock can accelerate the process. Repeat the procedure if necessary. Afterward, proceed to raise any dents, sand and finish the stock as usual.
