This PAIR of 12-Gauge William Powell & Son Best Quality sidelock double-barrel shotguns. Both firearms feature single bead sight on the smooth concave game rib with doll's head extension which is marked "WILLIAM POWELL & SON, 35 CARRS LANE, BIRMINGHAM." along with a gold inlaid "1" or "2" in a flourish of scrollwork, Birmingham proof marks, and chambers marked 2 1/2 inches with South Gate ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a casehardened sidelock bar-action which displays expertly cut classic English bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding "WILLIAM POWELL & SON" on either lockplate and gold "1" or "2" on the toplever. Both feature a third bite, intercepting sears, double triggers, and tang mounted automatic safety with "SAFE"in gold. This set includes a period leather flat case with "F.H.G." on the lid relined in burgundy baize and containing two turnscrews, two oil bottles, and cleaning tools.
