Description

Hailing from Brescia, Italy, the Caesar Guerini Essex Sporting offers a luxury shooting experience with the aesthetics of a much older gun and advantages of modern metallurgy and precision manufacturing. The gun is a model which was available in the early 2000s, roughly around 2006 or so. This Essex Sporting is chambered in 20 gauge and features 30" barrels with 3" chambers; standard field models were available with shorter 26" and 28" barrels and different furniture (Prince of Wales grips and Schnabel forends), while the sporting models featured thicker and more typical pistol grips and straight forends. The 30" barrels have a solid checkered rib with single brass front bead. The longer barrels with the lighter bore on this shotgun makes for a very well-balanced shotgun. The furniture on this shotgun is oil-finished and made of highly-figured Circassian walnut with checkering on the pistol grip and forend. The stock has a soft rubber Kick-Eez buttpad installed to ease the shooter's experience with this light sporting gun. The receiver is made of coin-finished steel with traditional English scroll-style rolled engravings adorning the sideplates, trigger guard, tang, lever, and chamber edges. The barrel monobloc is jeweled for a subtle piece of eye candy and polished surface when opening and closing the action. The Caesar Guerini Essex features a single selective trigger with a non-automatic safety and automatic selective ejectors. This shotgun does feature proprietary choke tubes with a thread pattern unique to Caesar Guerini guns, but includes a full set of flush screw-in chokes: cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified, and full chokes are included with a wrench and case. The shotgun also comes with the original hard plastic case with short plush lining, velvet storage bags for the two halves of the gun, and the user manual. The shotgun shows some signs of medium use. The stock has some light indentations on the left side and the barrel's bluing has some wear under the forend and on the left side about 2/3 of the way down the barrel. The receiver has a bit of light surface rust in some of the engravings on the right side. However, there is no significant structural damage to the furniture, receiver, or barrels. The barrels are clean, without rust or corrosion. This shotgun would be a great pickup for target clay enthusiasts who want a new gun with old-school aesthetic.
