Description
In the era of transitioning from cap and ball firearms to self-contained metallic cartridges, firearm manufacturers and private gunsmiths were at the forefront of developing what were often termed conversions. However, Remington chose a different path, opting to manufacture their popular new model Army revolvers as dedicated metallic cartridge firearms. Cimarron has taken the 1858 models and elevated these replicas to meet the needs of contemporary shooters. The 1858 new model Army, originally a 0.44 bore handgun, saw conversions to either 0.46 rimfire or 0.44 rimfire and centerfire metallic cartridges, each priced at a notable $9 per unit for civilian trade. As part of the Cimarron collection, these replicas, based on an original new model Army, are now available in both standard blue and color case hardened finishes. Cimarron offers the 1858 new model Army in two barrel length options, 5-1/2 inches or 8 inches octagon barrel and a choice of chamberings, including 0.45 Colt, 0.44-40 or 0.38 special (for the 5-1/2 inches barrel version). Additionally, a 7-3/8 inches barreled new model Navy, chambered for the 0.38 special cartridge, is also available. Both variations include ejector rods for added functionality. Cimarrons replica Remington new model Army and Navy faithfully capture the appearance and handling of the original firearms.
