Description

The Romarm / Cugir PSL-54C, imported by Century Arms International, is a semi-automatic Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) chambered in the powerful 7.62x54mmR cartridge. While it is often visually mistaken for the famous Russian SVD Dragunov, the PSL-54C is mechanically distinct. It is essentially a scaled-up, beefed-up Kalashnikov action built on a heavy-duty, reinforced RPK light machine gun receiver designed to handle full-powered sniper ammunition. Key Technical Specifications Action: Long-stroke gas piston, semi-automatic. Receiver: Stamped steel with a bulged front trunnion for maximum durability. Barrel: 24.5-inch chrome-lined barrel with a 1:10 twist rate, capped by an iconic multi-port muzzle brake. Furniture: Distinctive laminated wood thumbhole/skeleton stock and elongated, slotted handguards. Magazine: Uses proprietary 10-round steel box magazines (marked with a signature "X" stamp). Optics Support: Features an AK/Warsaw Pact side-mounting rail on the left side of the receiver for standard 4x24 scopes like the LPS-4 or PSO-1. Design History & Legacy The PSL (which stands for Pușcă Semiautomată cu Lunetă, or "scoped semi-automatic rifle") was developed by Romania in the early 1970s. After Romania refused to participate in the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union cut off access to military technical data, including the blueprints for the SVD Dragunov. Left to innovate independently, the Cugir Arms Factory successfully adapted their existing AK/RPK platform into this highly reliable, long-range combat workhorse. Operational Characteristics Though it looks like a precision sniper platform, the PSL-54C was fundamentally engineered as a battlefield force multiplier intended to eliminate human-sized targets at extended squad distances. It is highly regarded by collectors for its soft, controllable recoil, which is heavily mitigated by its robust gas system and massive muzzle brake. However, because it utilizes a thin "pencil" barrel, it is prone to heat stringing (shots drifting as the barrel warms up), making it a historical and recreational masterpiece rather than a rapid-fire benchrest rifle. This rifle is in good condition. The internals are in excellent condition.
