Prevents the plug from flying off spring during field stripping and getting lost or hitting the operator, possibly causing injury. Precision-turned for proper fit in full-size Government model pistols, with flat, diamond-pattern knurling on the front. If you lose the plug, your gun can't operate, and you're done for the day.
