Serial Number: 5572464. Manufactured '54-'56, barrel is marked hra 11-54. Excellent condition. Bore is bright and shiny. This rifle is part of the Civilian Marksman Program. Stock has some light handling wear, common for military surplus firearms. Bolt reads as "6528287-SA-Z-4-B", and the barrel reads as "HRA 6535448 11-54 RS41". The Civilian Marksman Program was founded in 1903, and is still around to this day. Its initial mission was to encourage civilians to practice their marksmanship, and get them ready for enlistment. The programs mission today is similar, with an emphasis on teaching younger generation's firearm safety, marksmanship, and competition. The M1 Garand was adopted as the new American Service rifle in 1936. It was the first autoloading rifle that the military adopted into service, replacing the bolt action Springfield M1903. Seeing use in both World War II and the Korean War, before being replaced my the Springfield Armory M14 rifle in 1957. The M1 Garand has seen plenty of use throughout the Cold War era as well, seeing several hundred thousands sent to Vietnam and surplus rifles sold off to foreign allies. This post-war H&R M1 Garand was manufactured sometime between 1953-56. Featuring a 24" barrel, bladed front sight and post-war rear peep sight, internal magazine well, manual safety, slings studs, and has a walnut full stock. Comes with it's CMP manual and certificate.
