Barrel length is a balance between velocity and handling. A longer barrel lets the powder burn more completely for more velocity, which matters most with magnum cartridges, while a shorter barrel is quicker to swing and easier to carry through timber.About the 22 CreedmoorThe 22 Creedmoor has wide factory ammunition support, so you can find hunting and practice loads for it at most sporting goods counters. Zero the rifle with the exact load you plan to hunt with and stay with it through the season, because changing loads can move your point of impact.Care and Setup TipsBefore the season, check that the action screws are snug, mount your scope with quality rings, and zero at the distance you expect to shoot. Confirm your zero again after travel. After each outing, wipe the metal down, run a patch through the bore, and store the firearm dry. A little care keeps the rifle accurate and protects the finish for years.About Horizon FirearmsHorizon Firearms builds custom-grade bolt action hunting rifles in Texas, best known for the Vandal and Venatic lines. Its rifles pair carbon fiber barrels and stocks with precision actions to keep weight low for mountain hunting while holding long-range accuracy.Choosing AmmunitionFor hunting, choose a bullet built for the size of game and the distance you expect: controlled-expansion or bonded bullets for large or tough game, and faster-expanding bullets for smaller game. Buy enough of one lot to zero and practice, then stay with it.Practice and Field PrepSpend time at the range before the season shooting from the positions you will use in the field, such as sitting, kneeling and off shooting sticks. Knowing your holdover and your effective range is as important as the rifle itself, and it is what makes ethical shots possible.Transport and StorageCarry and store the firearm unloaded, in a padded case, and away from moisture. If you travel to hunt, check the transport rules for every state you pass through, and keep the owner's manual with the gun so the loading and cleaning steps are always at hand.Mounting an OpticChoose rings or a mount that match the base pattern of this model, torque the screws to the values the ring maker lists, and set eye relief with the rifle shouldered in your normal shooting position before you tighten everything down. A level reticle and correct eye relief do as much for practical accuracy as the rifle itself.Ordering and ShippingFirearms purchased online must be transferred through a federally licensed dealer.
