Description

The Stevens Model 425 High Power Lever-Action Rifle was produced from about 1911 to 1917, a few years before J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company was acquired by Savage Arms in 1920. It was part of Stevens' lineup of affordable tubular magazine lever-action rifles, chambered for a variety of Remington rimless centerfire cartridges such as .25 Rem, .30-30 Rem, .32 Rem, and .35 Rem. The .30-30 Remington cartridge is rimless, and although it is ballistically similar to the .30-30 Winchester round, they are not interchangeable. It was later re-named as the .30 Remington because of the potential for confusion between the two very different rounds. There is some dispute about how many of these rifles were made, but the publicly-available serial number range goes from 1021-5594. This gun's serial number, 5278, places it fairly late in the production run. Precise serial number dating was not found during our research. The photos show its condition pretty well, and it's worth noting the repair that was done on the butt stock up against the butt plate at the bottom. It fits well and is tightly held in place. The action is smooth, and the bore looks good, with strong rifling. No box or case.
