Removable (live) pilot greatly reduces the risk of scratching the lands when cutting the chamber to final dimensions, so you get the best possible chambering job for maximum accuracy. Snug-fitting pilot helps provide extra-stable "live center" alignment to maintain proper chamber-to-bore alignment.
