Description
For sale is a beautiful, pristine example of a vintage Marlin Model 1895 lever-action rifle chambered in the legendary .45-70 Government cartridge. Manufactured in 1977 with serial number 23081602, this unmolested firearm represents a spectacular milestone from Marlin's highly coveted "JM" proofed era of production. Following the rifle's modern reintroduction in 1972, this late-1970s variant proudly features the classic, fast-handling straight-grip walnut stock paired with a 22-inch Micro-Groove barrel. Marlin's proprietary 12-groove rifling design was celebrated for delivering incredible velocity and superb accuracy out in the field with jacketed hunting ammunition. The history packed into this rifle is immense. The .45-70 Government cartridge itself dates back to 1873, originally engineered for the U.S. military as a black-powder powerhouse capable of stopping large, tough game on the American plains. A century later in the 1970s, Marlin perfectly adapted this heavy-hitting round for modern woods hunters by beefing up the rifle's receiver with modern, high-tensile steel. This particular 1977 rifle is in excellent condition and functions flawlessly. Completing this remarkable time-capsule hunting package is a period-correct, American-made Weaver K-31 Micro-Trac scope held firmly by authentic vintage USA Weaver scope rings. Wonderfully balanced, completely original, and built with robust mechanical design, this big-bore lever gun is a nostalgic piece of firearms history that remains fully ready for any hunt.
