Description
Attention Marlin Collectors---Here is a Mages Huntsman 25c, chambered in 12 Gauge with a 24" cylinder choke barrel. Has rifle type sights and looks to have been made for slug shooting / deer hunting. The Mages Huntsman 25C (often listed as the Model 25) is a rare, vintage bolt-action shotgun manufactured by the Marlin Firearms Co. between 1963 and 1965. If you are wondering who "Mages" is in this context, Mages & Co. (Mages Sporting Goods) was a historic Chicago-based sporting goods store chain. During the mid-20th century, major retailers commonly contracted prominent firearms manufacturers like Marlin to produce guns under their own store brand names (similar to Sears selling Marlin guns under the "J.C. Higgins" or "Ted Williams" labels). Fast Facts About the Firearm: The Original Design: It is a store-branded, short-barreled variation of the famous Marlin Model 55 "Goose Gun". Specifications: It features a detachable box magazine, a walnut or hardwood stock, and was produced in 12-gauge (with some rare 20-gauge variants also existing). Collectability: Because it was only built for a brief two-year window in the 1960s specifically for Mages stores, it is considered a unique collector's piece today for enthusiasts of vintage Marlin store-branded firearms. Morrie Mages Sporting Goods was a legendary, multi-story Chicago landmark founded by Morrie Mages at LaSalle and Ontario streets, but the original stores are long closed. The famous flagship building at 620 N. LaSalle Street later transitioned into Sportmart and Sports Authority before closing permanently. Interested?
