Description
Marlin Model 90 over / under shotgun in 12 gauge with 2 3/4" chambers, circa 1949 manufacture. Features 30-inch barrels, a single non-selective trigger, and the distinctive open-barrel configuration found on later Model 90 production. The single trigger fires the two barrels sequentially, with a manual tang safety and extractor-type action. The barrels retain about 85% of their blued finish, with minor handling marks and scattered finish wear. Both bores are clean and bright. Choke conistrctions are fixed and have not been determined. The receiver shows more finish wear, with about 65-75% of its finish, with scattered surface spotting and an even, brown-grey patina. No obvious deep pitting is found there. The checkered walnut stock and forearm are in very good condition, estimated at 90%, with well-defined checkering and only light handling marks. No obvious cracks or deep gouges. The buttstock has a vintage Morgan Adjustable recoil pad, marked "Morgan Adjustable - Patented - Youngstown, O", a period-style accessory that was designed to allow adjustment of the butt pad for improved gun fit and shooting comfort. It shows age-appropriate wear and has a contrasting ventilated spacer. This gun has an early-design snap-on forearm attachment with no release lever. The receiver, barrel assembly, and forearm iron all carry matching serial or assembly numbers, showing that they belong together with this gun. The single-trigger design is an interesting feature of this early Model 90. It's consistent with documented offerings of the era, but the factory originality of this gun's trigger mechanism has not been verified. Overall condition is 80-85%, with most cosmetic wear on the receiver. It presents very well, with nice walnut furniture, good barrel finish, and bores that are clean and bright. No box or case.
