PVC is a desireable material for patches because it won't rot, or fade like embroidered patches will, it is also not fray when cut, which allows it to handle more abuse than a standard embroidered patch. The Maxpedition Medic PVC Patc features the universal sign for medical support and first aid. The Red Cross image, is easily recognized as the designator for persons or places to get bandaids.
