The half-metal jacket refers to the copper coating of the slug that only covers the sides and back of the slug and provides less friction than a standard naked lead projectile. These slugs are specifically designed to travel at a high velocity and expand on impact, creating an enormous amount of energy and knock-down power. Typically copper coating is only seen on rifle and pistol ammunition, but Phoenix adopted this same benefit for their .410 Bore round.
