After a case has been seated using the "normal" seating plug a "semi-automatic" or "slightly angled" seating plug should be used which will slightly set the case back or nose over the seating stem. The purpose for these plugs are to catch the case mouth open to be seated by the spring loaded punch and spring loaded seater plug (which ever occurred to be the case mouth when the case was seated originally). As the case is seated the piston should be pushed through these plugs just a bit further to ensure that a nice smooth release of the bullet is possible. If the case is seated all the way through the seater plug the punch and seater should be moved slightly to be seated by the punch and not by hand. If the opposite is true (so the punch and seater are seated touching) the punch and seater should be moved at a slight angle to one side to accommodate for the seating operation being performed. The plugs are made from hardened steel and designed to be over sized for a snug fit in both the case and the chamber of the firearm. After a bullet has been seated the entire length of the die the punch should be moved down slightly to break off the seating stem slightly. This is normal and no harm is done as a result of using alternate seater plugs.
