Description
The Remington Model 591M is a vintage, detachable magazine, bolt-action rifle designed specifically for the unique 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum (5mm RFM) cartridge. Based on the serial number (1047526), this particular rifle was manufactured circa 1970, near the beginning of its limited production window. Introduced in 1969 to compete with Winchester's .22 WMR, the Model 591M featured a streamlined design built as a serious varmint and small-game rifle. Because the 5mm RFM cartridge generates high pressure (up to 37,000 psi), Remington constructed the rifle with a rigid, solid-frame receiver and a robust multi-lug bolt setup uncommon for standard rimfires. It is characterized by its smooth pistol-grip Monte Carlo American walnut stock and a distinctive brown grip cap stamped with "5mm". Production was short-lived, running from 1969 to 1974 with only about 27,000 units built, making it a desirable piece of rimfire history today.
