Description
This 121 Fieldmaster receiver traces to 1954 manufacture, the barrel code traces to 1954. This is uncommon as receivers and barrels often sat in a warehouse for a long time before assembly.1954 manufacture places this very nearly the final month's production of 121s before being replaced by the 572 in 1955. This one has the Routledge bore with a .22 cal chamber area stepping up to a .400 bore at roughly halfway to the muzzle. This gave the little gun more of a shotgun feel as well as protecting the shot swarm formation making the patterns much more predictable. These guns are quite rare, with only 2500 or so made out of a total of 200,000 121s manufactured. The guns were and are quite popular for rodent control, and such games as Mo-Skeet-O, a miniaturized clay target game shooting at half dollar size clay targets. The "dust" size shot has a very short range, roughly 50 feet, and fell to the ground shortly after that. The game was popular with youth camps where a buck bought a ten-round trip to the range, and the "Skeet" could be played on existing rimfire ranges with safety.
