Description
The Remington Nylon 66 "Apache Black" (66AB) is a historic, highly collectible rimfire rifle famously known for its black stock and chrome-plated receiver cover and barrel. Based on serial number 440036, this rifle was manufactured in 1968. Remington first began standard serialization in late 1967 (running from 410000 to 419011). For the year 1968, the serial sequence ran precisely from 419012 to 473710, placing your number right in the middle of that block. The Apache Black variation was introduced in 1962 and remained in production until 1984. It is structurally identical to the standard Nylon 66 but features distinct structural and aesthetic elements. Molded from DuPont Zytel-101 nylon, the black polymer stock features a Schnabel fore-end tip with white-line spacing, a white-lined pistol grip cap, and iconic white diamond overlays inlaid on both sides of the fore-end. Unlike the blued steel of the Mohawk Brown models, the Apache Black features a striking, high-gloss mirror chrome finish on both the barrel and the stamped sheet-metal receiver cover.
