The Remington Model 11-87, a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun, was introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1987 as an evolution of the earlier Model 1100. This new design incorporated a pressure-compensating gas system that automatically adjusted to varying loads, enabling reliable cycling of both heavy waterfowl rounds and lighter target shells that occasionally jammed the predecessor model. Initial production emphasized 12-gauge configurations, with the Model 11-87 Premier marketed as the most versatile autoloading shotgun available, featuring vent-rib barrels.
