Description
This is a very nice example of a Remington Model A3-03 "1903A4 sniper" rifle manufactured in 1943. These rifles continued to serve as a primary infantry rifle for U.S. troops during WWII, Korean War, and saw limited use in other conflicts. The barrel is marked "R A / ordnance bomb / 2-44" with a "P" on the bottom side. The receiver is marked "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" correctly offset on the left side with serial number "3412318". The rifle has the correct 1903A4 sniper rifle bolt with the "R" mark on the underside of the bolt handle and on the firing pin. The rifle has the correct Redfield scope base installed on the receiver. The mag disconnect is marked, "ON / OFF" with an "R" for Remington. The safety is marked "READY / SAFE" with an "R" mark for Remington. The front sight is a blade set on top of a tall base. The sight is marked "C" which is correct with a "R" marked base for Remington. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked "FJA - Col. Frank J. Atwood", and the magazine cut off notch is marked "K" for "Keystone company as a contract maker during WWII for replacement stocks". The wrist area has the circled "P" stamp and the front of the floorplate is marked "5, oval ?, 0, square ?, and "M". The two piece walnut stock set has a steel cap w/ bayonet lug and stacking loop, barrel band, late WWII scant-grip "C", two reinforcing pins, and a smooth steel buttplate with storage. The steel nose cap, stacking loop and front sling loop is marked "R" for Remington. The front barrel band is unmarked and the rear sling loop base is marked "R" for Remington.
