Description

This Savage No. 4 Mk I rifle chambered in .303 British is a classic military surplus bolt-action rifle that remains in good overall condition for its age. The rifle retains an attractive wood stock with scattered handling marks and finish wear consistent with military service and long-term storage. Metal surfaces show expected finish wear and patina, while the rifle appears complete with its detachable magazine and a period-style military sling. Serial number 73C1328B. Savage-produced No. 4 Mk I rifles were manufactured in the United States during World War II, and this example is believed to date to the 1942-1944 production period. The Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I was the standard rifle of British and Commonwealth forces throughout much of World War II. To help meet wartime demand, Savage-Stevens Arms in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, produced large numbers of these rifles under the Lend-Lease program for Allied forces.
