The Spyderco Manix 2 XL is a large folding knife built around a 3.85 inch drop point blade of CPM SPY27, a cobalt-enriched powder metallurgy steel developed with Crucible Industries. The broad, full flat-ground blade shape is designed to take advantage of this steel's balance of toughness, corrosion resistance, edge retention and ease of sharpening, and the knife is intended for demanding everyday cutting tasks.

The blade is held by a ball bearing lock for smooth deployment and secure lockup. The handle uses full skeletonized stainless steel liners wrapped in cobalt blue, peel-ply textured G-10 scales. The knife measures 8.94 inches overall, has a plain edge and a satin finish, and includes an oversized lanyard hole and a reversible pocket clip for right or left side tip-up carry.
