The SSG M1 is a testament to Steyr’s pursuit of excellence, and comes packed with features not found of rifles of lesser quality. The forend is equipped with a multitude of key-mod point for the attachment of accessories, and a full-length flattop picatinny rail allows the installation of magnified optics and clip-on night vision/thermal devices. Like Steyr’s other high-end bolt action rifles, the SSG M1 features the Safe Bolt System or SBS. The SBS is a 2+1 safety function has three settings operated by a wheel selector mounted in the tang of the receiver. The first level deactivates the firing mechanism and the second level locks the bolt in place. The SBS also features a press-to-release tab that locks the switch down in the safe and locked position. The fire mode is indicated by a red dot. Other features of the SSG M1 include a dust cover similar to that of an AR-15, and a lightweight aluminum folding stock which is fully adjustable for cheek height and length of pull.
