Schmidt M1882/29 Swiss Ordnance Revolver w/ Various Grips ( See extended description ) 7.5 calliber, 6 shot revolver, manufactured in Switzerland by Waffenfabrik Bern - Various Grips The Schmidt M1882 was fabricated in Switzerland by the Waffenfabrik Bern and was used as an ordnance arm by the Swiss Army. Another design by Colonel Rudolph Schmidt, of Schmidt-Rubin fame, the revolver was designed around the 7.5 caliber round. The 1882 was a simple and effective design, with some examples remaining in service until 1964. The original Model 1882 was so popular with the Swiss military that they continued it's use for many years even after the Swiss Lugers had come into service. The Model 1882 had the advantages of being easy to load and operate, they were easy to field strip and they were inexpensive. However, by the end of the 1920s, many 1882 revolvers had reached the end of their service lives. As a result, steps were taken to upgrade the design which resulted in the Swiss 1889/29. The Model 1889/29 possessed a simplified design and strengthened frame. However, only about 18,000 were ever produced before they were finally classified as obsolete by military standards and the revolver at which time the production for the military was finally discontinued. Here\'s the deal, folks. These pistols were invoiced to us from the distributor as 1882 Swiss Ordnance Revolvers. These folks are native Swiss so they should know, as opposed to native southern redneck which is what we are, so we are calling them what they are calling them assuming they would more likely be right. However, once we had them in hand and examined them, we believe it is more likely that these are M1929 Swiss Ordnance Revolvers due to the serial number range and round barrels. The original 1882 models according to our research, had octagonal barrels.The model 1929 is a simplified version of the model 1882. Most changes were made to help ease production and to make it less expensive. One can distinguish a model 1928 by its round barrel from the 1882\'s octagonal one. Grip was widened to make it more ergonomic and higher quality steel used. However, the hammers do exhibit the earlier one-piece design, with the firing pin extending from the hammer face. Of course our info is all gleamed from the internet so the truth is we don\'t know for certain what we have as far as the model # is concerned as we have never seen these before. What we do know is that they are extremely well made exhibiting the exacting standards you have come to expect from Swiss firearms. We also know that they are rare and highly collectible... especially in this condition. We only have a very small quantity so you do not want to hesitate.
