This handsome six-shooter had an improved loading lever to facilitate easier loading of the cylinder and was chambered in a smaller .36 Caliber projectile giving it considerably less recoil than its larger predecessors chambered in .44 Caliber. The 1861 Navy's gained a reputation for accuracy and featured blade-style front sight instead of a metal bead. These handguns were used by soldiers on both sides during the Civil War especially cavalry units and other horseback mounted troops.
