Description
Looking for a lead-free 444 Marlin hunting cartridge – or a very effective hunting cartridge, regardless of whether its bullet contains lead or not? Then Underwood has your number with this 220 grain Xtreme Penetrator load.
This round’s distinctive bullet is made of precision CNC machined solid copper. It’s a smooth-feeder, a clean-shooter, and a flat-flier. But most importantly, the Xtreme Penetrator lives up to its name by conserving a high percentage of its weight and momentum after impact. Tough copper stands up to fast penetration of body mass!
The Xtreme Penetrator’s unique fluted tip makes it xtremely deadly to boot. After the monolithic bullet’s blunt nose profile delivers a massive blow on impact, its grooves begin exploiting hydraulic energy as they create a massive energy spike and wide permanent wound cavity.
Underwood reports this round’s G1 BC at 0.200. We assume they chronographed its 2,660 fps muzzle velocity using a 24” test barrel. Based on that, we estimate it’ll spit out the following ballistic performance:
0yds: 2,660 fps | 3,457 ft lbs | -1.5”
100yds: 2,232 fps | 2,434 ft lbs | 2.8”
200yds: 1,846 fps | 1,665 ft lbs | 0.0”
300yds: 1,510 fps | 1,114 ft lbs | -13.1”
400yds: 1,240 fps | 751 ft lbs | -41.7”
500yds: 1,062 fps | 551 ft lbs | -93.0”
