Waffenfabrik Bern ~ Vetterli M.78 ~ .41 Swiss

Waffenfabrik Bern Vetterli M.78, chambered in .41 Swiss. The Vetterli rifle was produced by the Swiss from 1866 to 1889 and had several different models. At the time of its manufacture, the Vetterli was one of the most advanced rifles in Europe, the first repeating bolt action rifle with a self cocking mechanism. The bluing on this rifle has turned to a brown patina. The stock has also been chopped down leaving the cleaning rod exposed. Almost all the serial numbers match apart from the rear sight adjustment. Bore is exceptionally clean with strong rifling.
