The A5 buffer was specifically designed at the request of the Marine Corps to bring an adjustable stock to their 20" M16 rifles. VLTOR brought them a completely new buffer system that used a rifle-length spring in an adjustable receiver extension tube. This translates to a smoother, slower bolt movement that reduces felt recoil and allows shooters to keep on target.Note: This buffer does not fit standard carbine extensions. Short-barreled rifles or suppressed rifles, which experience a lot of backpressure, use H3 and H4 heavy buffers to counteract the violent action of the AR-15's bolt.
