It was created to comply with U.S. import regulations in the late 1960s by mating the PPK's barrel and slide with the larger PP frame. This makes the PPK/S slightly taller and heavier than the standard PPK, allowing for a longer grip and an increased magazine capacity. Action: The pistol operates with a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) mechanism, meaning the first shot can be fired by a long trigger pull, while subsequent shots benefit from a lighter, shorter, single-action pull. It has an exposed hammer. Safety: The PPK/S incorporates several safety features, including a manual safety lever on the slide that also acts as a decocker to safely drop the hammer. A loaded chamber indicator also protrudes from the slide when a round is in the chamber.
