This Winchester 70 Safari Express Classic is the third edition of the Big 5 chambered in 338 Winchester Magnum. Winchester manufactured these rifles out of there custom shop around 2002. Each of the three series commemorates the dangerous big game animals of Africa. The left side of the barrel is marked "-- WINCHESTER MODEL 70 338 Win Mag -- / ----MADE IN NEW HAVEN. CT U.S.A. ----. The right side barrel shank is marked "LCL INC. SCOTTSDALE AZ". On the right side in front of the barrel is marked "-- SAFARI EXPRESS --". The front sight is a round hooded white beaded blade in a fine checkered ramped mount fixed to the front top of the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable U-notch dovetailed to a mount fixed to the top rear of the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for mounts (not included). The bolt handle is knurled, and the body is jeweled. The floor plate has a 24K gold overlay of a leopard centered on the floorplate, with a French Grey background. It also has 24K gold line boarders outlining the floorplate hinge and around "SAFARI CLASSIC" in gold lettering. The 24K gold inlay of Africa "BIG 5" is also done in golden line boarder. The engraving was done by Baron Technology, Trumbull, CT. The stock is a one-piece semi-fancy checkered American walnut featuring a semi-pistol grip, a fluted straight comb with a cheek piece and 1" black rubber buttpad. The stock also has an inletted rear sling swivel base with a front barrel band swivel. Comes with the factory matched box. Overall this gun remains in lightly used condition with faint signs of use.
