Description
This is an early-production Model 1912, serial number 100042, circa 1914 manufacture. Nickel steel barrel, fixed full choke, grooved walnut forearm, walnut stock, and Winchester's classic takedown action with matching serial numbers on both the receiver and barrel assembly. This early 16 gauge was manufactured with a 2-9/16" chamber, and we have no reason to believe that was ever changed to 2-3/4", so we definitely recommend anyone wanting to fire it should measure it first. The steel retains a strong amount of finish with scattered handling wear and a little light pitting near the muzzle. The barrel bluing has also gone a bit purple/brown. The stock and forearm show the typical scratches and handling marks, with some small gouges as shown in the photos. The stock has an aftermarket rubber butt pad. Overall, it's approximately 85% condition. The action is smooth and the bore is clean and bright, and it takes down easily. It's an interesting early example of the shotgun that would later be known as the Model 12. No box or case.
