Colt ~ M1911 US Army Transitional ~ .45 Auto

Documented US Army Colt M1911 semiautomatic pistol chambered in .45 Automatic. Transitional model produced in 1924 during the early adoption of the M1911A1. One of the first 10,000 units manufactured to incorporate the major ergonomic improvements that would define the M1911A1 yet still bore the original "MODEL OF 1911" roll marks. The left side of the frame features the correct inspector monogram "WTG" (Captain Walter T. Gordon). Appears to be all original with the exception of the barrel, which appears to be from an M1911 dating to 1918-1019 according to the included Gahimer letter. Hammer also appears to be from earlier production. Also, included is an invoice from Turnbull indicating that some work was done to correct minor damage from replacement of the rear sight with a correct period sight. Comes with a period correct magazine, Gahimer letter and other documentation.
