The most iconic of the Colt Snake Gun seriesand possibly the most famous Colt revolver todaythe Python has become a pop culture icon since its introduction in 1955. The Python was brought to market as a luxury model revolver in Colt's product line and has been highly regarded by many writers, collectors, and professionals within the firearms industry. The Python is known for its smooth action and very accurate performance. The Python is a 6-shot revolver chambered in .357 Magnum and built on Colt's I-frame. The revolver closely resembles service revolvers such as the Colt Trooper and Lawman, but is a more high-end piece, with its Royal Blued or silver finish; the earlier production Pythons were available in nickel-plated finishes, but were eventually replaced with matte stainless and polished stainless finishes instead. The Python uses a double/single-action trigger mechanism and is easily recognizable from its vented barrel rib. This Python for sale is a 1978 Royal Blued piece with gloss-finished carved hardwood grips with finger grooves from Altamont. The revolver features a grooved trigger, wide checkered hammer, adjustable rear sight, textured ramped front sight, and matte surfaces on the top of the frame and rib. The revolver is in excellent operating condition and parts appear to have been well-taken-care-of and have no damage. However, the top right corner of the frame above the cylinder and both the front and back of the cylinder have some light pitting in the finish. The rear of the grooved grip has about a 1" patch where the bluing has worn away, and the left side of the frame below the cylinder also is missing some of the finish. This Colt Python does not include a case, box, or paperwork.
