Description
The distinctive Colt Buntline Special is a long-barrelled variant of the Colt Single Action Army revolver, inspired by western dime novel writer Ned Buntline, who supposedly gifted them to legendary lawmen such as Wyatt Earp. (No actual evidence supports this, but the legend lives on.) This piece dates from 1980, the third year of production for the 3rd generation Single-Action Army revolvers, and is chambered for the classic .45 Colt (.45 Long Colt) cartridge. Its nickel plating appears to be from the factory and is in excellent shape with no discoloration or flaking. The stock grip panels (not included) would have been black "Coltwood," though the ones on this gun are aftermarket and seem to be made of some kind of animal bones or antler. The sights are comprised of a grooved frame with a fixed front Patridge blade sight. The revolver does not feature a transfer bar safety and has a checkered hammer. The cylinder holds six cartridges and has fluted surfaces. Buntlines are prized by collectors for their unusually long barrel, excellent workmanship, and historical tie-ins. Nickel versions like this one are somewhat harder to find. This gun is sold without a case or box.
