Description

The joint castle nut wrench (JCW) is a specialized, robust dual castle nut wrench, precisely CNC machined from 4140 steel, heat-treated and finished with a black oxide coating. This tool was developed to meet a specific need, as existing options did not satisfy our requirements. Traditional solutions included either a cumbersome armorer's wrench or an inexpensive stamped sheet metal castle nut wrench, neither of which could be used effectively with a torque wrench. The former is excessive, while the latter is insufficient. The JCW ingeniously combines two castle nut wrenches into one tool. One end features a conventional three-lug castle nut wrench, spanning 180 degree, while the other end offers a unique two-lug wrench, spaced 90 degree apart. Despite its compact dimensions of 3.5 inches x 1.84 inches (at its widest), the JCW is notably heavy at 3.14 oz, owing to its 4140 steel construction. It is specifically designed for use with a torque wrench. In certain configurations, such as end plates with QD swivel sockets, the socket housing can obscure a significant portion of the castle nut's circumference, making it difficult to access all three wrench notches. Our own end plate, sling adapter, forward controls (ESF) covers 1/4 of the castle nut's circumference, with the QD swivel housing providing reinforcement against unexpected forces. The JCW's two-lug wrench is tailored for such scenarios. It includes a central socket for a 1/2 inches drive torque wrench. The technical manual specifies applying 38 to 42 ft/lb of torque to the castle nut before staking it in two places and this torque value is conveniently engraved on the JCW. The tool features a conventional 3-lug castle nut wrench with a 180 degree span on one end and a specialized 2-lug wrench with a 90 degree spacing on the opposite end In certain end plates featuring QD swivel sockets, the socket housing obscures a significant segment of the castle nut's circumference, occasionally restricting access to all three wrench notches The JCW, similar to the CBW (combined barrel nut wrench) and the JMW (joint muzzle device wrench), necessitates the use of a torque wrench with a 1/2 inches drive JCW is meticulously designed and manufactured in the United States It is a collaborative effort between Forward Controls Design and Arson Machine Co
