Description
The bolt carrier pin package includes the enhanced cam pin, firing pin and firing pin retainer pin, each redesigned to maintain critical mil-spec dimensions while enhancing durability, finish and functionality. These pins are standard components in all custom rifle and upper builds. The JP enhanced cam pin retains the essential dimensions of the standard DPMS LR-308 cam pin but offers improvements in design, manufacturing and finish. This results in a smoother operating system with reduced overall wear on components. The enhanced cam pins feature a low friction QPQ finish and are machined thicker than the typically undersized standard pins. An undersized pin may fit easily but can introduce slop between the bolt, bolt carrier and cam pin, stressing the cam pin hole during cycling and leading to common bolt breakage. It also accelerates cam pin wear as the carrier erodes the material at bearing points. A tighter pin with a low friction coating significantly reduces this wear. Additionally, the upper receiver-to-cam pin width is precisely maintained to keep the bolt aligned with the barrel, minimizing premature lug wear on the barrel extension. The revamped head design of the pin facilitates easier assembly and disassembly while eliminating the usual sloppy play that causes unnecessary receiver wear. The standard split-pin design of the firing pin retainer pin is often plagued by poor retention, requiring users to frequently spread the pin's split tip to prevent it from falling out when the carrier group is removed. This can lead to loss or fracture of the pin. The JP-designed and manufactured firing pin retainer pin addresses these retention issues with a cotter-style design that offers superior retention and longevity.
