This example is an "S" prefix Marlin Model 39 lever action rifle that was manufactured between 1922-1932. The serial number is 4 digits "S4261". The top of the 24" octagonal barrel is marked "The Marlin Firearms Corporation. / NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-PATENTED", the left is marked "22 S L & L.R.". The upper tang is marked with a star inspector stamp. The butt plate is marked "Marlin". The front sight is a beaded blade that is dovetailed to the barrel; the brass bead is missing. The rear sight is a Lyman tang mounted adjustable flip up peep. The stocks are two-piece smooth select walnut set with an "S" shaped pistol grip, capped forearm, Marlin bullseye in the belly, and a hard rubber Marlin buttplate.
