The Mossberg 590R Tactical is a 12 gauge pump-action shotgun built on the 590 platform, with a detachable box magazine in place of the traditional tubular magazine. It is intended for defensive, duty, and dynamic shooting applications.

The 18.5-inch barrel has a cylinder bore choke and a 3-inch chamber, giving compatibility with a range of 12 gauge loads. The aircraft-grade aluminum receiver is drilled and tapped for optics, and the rifle weighs about 7.1 pounds. The ambidextrous rotary thumb safety and flat profile trigger suit right- and left-handed shooters. Magpul MBUS front and rear sights and M-LOK adapters allow mounting of lights, grips, and other accessories. The black synthetic AR-style stock and grip and the ODG Cerakote finish complete the build.
