To use simply push the magnifier back over and it will catch into the base allowing you to take longer shots with a little help from some extra magnification. The one-handed operation of the flip-away mount allows you to maintain your hand on the fire control of your rifle allowing for the manipulation of the safety or pressing the trigger should the need arise.
