The Spyderco Sage 5 Lightweight is a folding knife built for everyday carry, with a 3-inch plain-edge blade of Maxamet steel finished in satin. Maxamet is a tool steel noted for hardness and edge retention, which lets the blade handle repeated cutting tasks between sharpenings.

The skeletonized stainless steel liners give the knife its lightweight build while keeping a strong internal frame. The gray fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) scales add a textured grip. A Compression Lock built into the liner structure provides one-hand closing and lockup under use. The reversible deep-pocket wire clip allows tip-up carry on either side.
