Description
The Winchester Model 9422 is a high-quality rimfire lever-action rifle produced from 1972 until 2005. It was designed to echo the classic look and feel of the legendary Model 94 centerfire rifle, but in a smaller .22 caliber package. The rifle was renowned for its smooth, reliable action and traditional craftsmanship. Action: The Model 9422 is a lever-action repeater with a solid-top receiver and side ejection, making it easier to mount a scope compared to the top-ejecting Model 94. Construction: It was built with high-quality components, featuring all-steel parts and a forged and milled receiver. Winchester's goal was to rebuild its reputation for craftsmanship after 1964, and the 9422 was central to this effort. Takedown design: All 9422s are takedown models, though not obviously so. A single screw on the left side of the receiver can be removed to separate the rifle into two halves for easy cleaning and transport. Ammunition: Standard models were chambered for .22 S-L-LR cartridges and could handle .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle ammunition interchangeably. Early versions could shoot all three, while later versions (after a modification to standardize parts with the Magnum model) were marked for .22 L-LR only. Sights: The rifle typically came with adjustable open sights, including a hooded front sight and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The receiver is also grooved to accept rimfire-type scope mounts. Safety: The rifle does not have a modern safety. Instead, it relies on the traditional half-cock position of the hammer.
