Description

The Browning SA-22 (Semi-Auto 22) is one of the most iconic rimfire rifles ever produced and holds the distinction of being the first successful production semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle in history. Patented by John M. Browning in 1912 and introduced in 1914, this slim, lightweight, blowback-operated autoloading rifle has been in continuous production for over a century. Known for its flawless "old-school" fit and finish, the SA-22 is built exclusively with a solid machined steel receiver and high-grade American walnut furniture. • Toolless Takedown System: The barrel and forend can be instantly separated from the receiver without tools by disengaging a barrel lock and twisting. When taken down, the longest piece measures a mere 19-3/8 inches, making it incredibly compact for storage, transport, or survival use. • Ambidextrous Bottom Ejection: Spent casings are ejected straight down out of the bottom of the receiver. This safety feature keeps hot brass and debris out of the line of sight and makes the rifle completely ambidextrous and comfortable for both right- and left-handed shooters. • Buttstock Tubular Magazine: To maintain an incredibly slim and balanced profile, the tubular magazine is housed entirely inside the buttstock. Ammunition is loaded nose-first through a dedicated feed port on the right side of the stock. • Barrel Adjustment Mechanism: A knurled adjustment knob located at the breech-end of the barrel allows shooters to easily eliminate any mechanical play between the receiver and barrel over time, ensuring a rock-solid lockup and maximum accuracy. The firearm's production history spans across three major eras and manufacturers: • FN Herstal (19141974): Originally produced in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale. Early "Belgian" variants are highly prized by collectors today and can command steep premiums. • Remington Licensing (19191951): John Browning licensed the design to Remington in the United States, which marketed it domestically as the Remington Model 24 and the lighter Model 241. • Miroku (1976Present): Production shifted to the renowned Miroku plant in Japan, where modern iterations (such as the Grade I) are still manufactured with exceptional quality control and barrels drilled/tapped for specialized cantilever optics mounts.
