The Spikes Tactical M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group is a replacement bolt carrier assembly for AR-15 type rifles chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It is intended for shooters building or maintaining an M16-profile rifle who want a lighter carrier group with a nickel boron finish on the carrier and bolt.
The carrier is machined from 8620 tool steel and the bolt from 158 Carpenter steel. The gas key is staked, the bolt is shot peened and inspected by high pressure testing and magnetic particle inspection, and the carrier includes holes that reduce weight by about one ounce. The complete assembly weighs 10.5 ounces. The nickel boron coating is applied inside and out, and the manufacturer describes it as an M-16 profile part that does not make an AR-15 fully automatic.
